Corrençon en Vercors
Close to our hotel in Villard de Lans
Before becoming an autonomous municipality in 1857, Corrençon en Vercors was for many years part of Villard de Lans. The two villages still share many things to this day, such as the great ski area that overlooks them. Located close to the hotel, the village of Corrençon en Vercors is certainly worth at least one visit. Nestled at the foot of the Grande Moucherolle, it is located in an extraordinary natural site that is heavily forested, giving the village an otherworldly feel. As you stroll through the village, discover the 19th century church, the foundations of the former castle and the marker of the 45th parallel, reminding you that you’re exactly halfway between the North Pole and the Equator. The more daring can head up the Pas de la Balme, a mysterious mound of stones constructed by humans and called the Mur des Sarrasins (the Wall of the Saracens).
Like many villages in the Vercors, Corrençon offers a large range of activities. In summer, the weather is perfect for long hikes, bike rides and horse rides. On these excursions, head to local producers and taste their excellent products including goat’s cheeses and Bleu du Vercors-Sassenage. If you love mountain biking, you’ll be in heaven at the Mountain Bike Resort and if you’re a fan of golf head to the 18-hole course at the Golf de Corrençon (5500 metres, par 71) at the heart of a sumptuous forest setting. In winter, the village looks to the snowy peaks and invites you to explore the wonderful Villard-Corrençon ski area. You can enjoy Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and ski touring, as well as biathlons, snow-shoeing and airboarding.
